Ownership and Independence in the Digital Age

Almost a year ago, I taught a class focused on professional digital skills. I advised my students to build their portfolios on a platform. It was a beautiful tool — free, elegant, and simple. However, six months later, an artificial intelligence company named Perplexity acquired the platform and shut it down. Every single portfolio those students had built disappeared overnight.

Later, I encouraged them to write on Medium. Shortly after, Medium modified its distribution model, making it significantly harder for new writers to gain traction and be read for free. The students who had successfully built an audience there lost their momentum instantly.

Also, during the classes, I struggled with explaining relatively simple things, as the websites and products were in the English language.

To make it even worse, a friend of mine who used to write amazing pieces got his Facebook account absolutely removed without any warning.

These experiences highlighted a fundamental truth for my country: establishing your career on an outside platform and in a foreign language means you never truly control your own destiny.

Why We Exist

We created this platform to solve that exact problem.

We believe that Somali creators, professionals, and writers should have absolute ownership over their work and their audience. Our platform was built specifically to ensure that your professional identity will never disappear just because a technology corporation somewhere you've never heard of decides to pivot or change its business model.

By building this ecosystem completely in Somali, we provide a reliable, permanent space tailored for our community. We exist to give you a digital home that belongs entirely to you — one that is built to last.
